Director of Spirits
Dean Hurst came to SideBern’s in December 1999 with years of experience in the restaurant industry. Starting at a young age, he enjoyed guiding guests through the fine dining experience and believes that palates contain snapshots of our past experiences that drive our cravings for food and drink. Dean makes it his personal responsibility to understand and fulfill the customers’ culinary needs.
During his time at SideBern’s, Hurst has been able to create an extensive and unique drinks program for the restaurant. As a noted mixologist, his creations have introduced a variety of new flavors to the menu which is a staple of the SideBern’s experience. Hurst was a finalist in the Bombay Sapphire Most Inspired Bartender Competition 2009, the Vinos de Jerez Cocktail Competition 2010, and the Bacardi USA Legacy Competition in 2012, which he finished 2nd place overall. He also attended Pinot Camp, Tales of the Cocktail, Portland Cocktail Week and was a Bar Fellow at Manhattan Cocktail Classic in 2011. He is currently president of the United States Bartender’s Guild, Tampa Chapter, known as the Left Coast Bartenders’ Guild, which organized one of the largest National Repeal Day events in the States.
In the fall of 2011, Hurst was promoted to Director of Spirits for Bern’s Steak House and SideBern’s and oversees the company’s spirits program. Overall, Dean is a driving force behind the success of SideBern’s operations and has a goal of expanding the palates of Tampa Bay.
